- Clean saw

- Alignment of fences and tables

However, you should not rely on this platform to work smoothly and accurately until you have tested it yourself. Older saw tables should be checked regularly as they are easier to misalign.
It’s not that hard to know if the table is flat. You can do this by placing a straight metal line along the table top. Look at the straight line to see how it wraps around the table. If there are differences between the table and the rule, it is not straight. If you have a level, you can also use it to check different parts of the table. The fact that the table is straight and flat doesn’t mean it’s completely flat!
When you are sure that the table is flat and properly aligned, the next step is to check the stop on the edge of the table to make sure it is straight. You can check the fence using the same method as with the saw. Place a straight edge along the length of the fence (on both sides of the saw table) and check for holes. Depending on the saw table used, the setting of the fence may vary. Many new table-top models work and make it possible to loosen the fence and move it to a new position. If it is a multi-piece fence, make sure that each part is straightened out separately.

With most saws you can connect a vacuum cleaner to capture dust more efficiently in a shop. If you have this option, check the suction hose and all connection holes to make sure they are closed, with no holes or openings for dust to escape.
If you have a friction saw, perform a brief test of the sliding mechanism to ensure that there is not too much play and that the bearings are still functioning properly. If the gliders are not working effectively, you may need professional help to find and solve the problem. Too much play in the sliding joints can lead to overlap, regardless of the quality of the saw alignment.
